Autism Speaks: An Appeal from DesignAShirt.com

The following is an email that John, the owner of DesignAShirt.com, sent to all of his friends and family. John and his family  attended the 2011 Walk Now for Autism Speaks in October, and raised more than $1,100. DesignAShirt.com is continuing its efforts to raise money for Autism research -- and welcomes donations of $20 and used cell phones for this cause. See the links below to learn how to get involved.

Dear Friends and Family,

Can you imagine hearing the words "your child has autism"? In a split second, life - as you know it - has changed.  Every 20 minutes, a family is diagnosed and tomorrow will never be the same.

For my friends, Neil and Lynn Balter, that life changing second occurred in 2005 when their son, Jack, was diagnosed with autism.  Since Jack's diagnosis, Neil and Lynn have been passionate about unlocking the mystery of this disorder and stopping it in its tracks. While the genie is out of the bottle for Jack, Neil and Lynn hope that through research and technology, our grandchildren will not even have to think about autism.  For this reason, the Balter's have stepped up to chair the 2011 Arizona Walk Now for Autism Speaks event.

Please join me in my effort to support Walk Now for Autism Speaks!  Because I believe in this cause, I am asking each of my friends and family to donate just $20 to the 2011 Walk Now for Autism Speaks and then forward this blog entry on to all of their contacts.  My goal is to have 50 people donate $20 each.

By participating in this event, you are helping to change the future for all who struggle with autism; you are getting us one step closer to finding the cause, prevention, treatment, and cure for autism so that no family ever hears those words again.

Donating is simple.  Just follow the link below to my personal webpage and donate online.  If everyone donates just $20, we can make a dramatic impact on those affected by autism and help change the future for our grandchildren.  Your donation is tax deductible.

Did you know:

.        Autism now affects 1 in 110 children (1 in 70 boys)

.        More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes & cancer combined

.        Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.

.        Autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases

.        There is no medical detection or cure for autism

Thank you for supporting this great cause!   I don't just give my money to this, as a family the Anton's actually volunteer our time to help make the Autism Walk a success.

This is a huge deal, watching what my friends Lynn and Neil have gone through to make Jack's life better has been an inspiration and I am not sure that I could have remained so incredibly focused and positive through all of it.

My hat is off to them and I hope you will consider making a $20 donation.

Or, if you have a used cell telephone, please drop it off at our offices. It will be recycled and the monies will be collected for autism. Our address is:

905 North Scottsdale Road, Tempe, AZ (800) 594-1206
