Generally, if you have six or more colors in your design, or if you want six or fewer shirts, digital printing is more cost effective. On the other hand, if you want fewer than six colors in your design, or if you want more than six shirts, screen printing is more cost effective.
Either method will ensure that your final shirt will be of the highest quality. But, some true shirt aficionados have definite preferences toward one or the other, so we are happy to print yours whichever way you like.
There are two different ways we can print your t-shirts - digital and screen - to match your needs. So what's the difference and why would we recommend one over the other?
Screen printing works basically like a printing press. We set up one to six screens and each is pressed onto a shirt in succession. Because this method involves the set-up up front, we use it most often with bulk orders of the same design - like if you are printing "The Smith Family Rules" on 50 shirts for your family reunion. If you are printing less than six shirts, this method is cost prohibitive.
Digital printing works basically like the laser printer in your home or office - if it were really cool and big and used t-shirts instead of paper. Since a computer does all the set-up, it is easier to print single designs or team shirts where every number and name is different. It also allows us to do a few things we were never able to do before, like print full-color photos on low-quantity orders. Certain products, like zippered hoodies or button-downs, however, can not be run through the digital printer, so we only recommend ordering those in bulk (six or more) and screen printing them.
